We’ve had suspicions for quite a while now that Hideo Kojima has been working on something new, but there hasn’t been any solid evidence as to what that project might be. Until now. It turns out that Sam Porter Bridges is unable to keep a secret as the actor who plays him in Kojima’s Death Stranding recently let slip that a sequel is indeed in the works.

Norman Reedus, the voice behind Sam Porter Bridges, accidentally let the news slip in an interview with Leo Magazine. ‘We just started a second one’ was Reedus’ response when asked about his experience in the first game. He expanded on how much time and effort he dedicated to the first project, substantiating that the first project has been such a success that a sequel is the natural next step. ‘It took me maybe two or three years to finish all the MoCap sessions and everything. It takes a lot of work. And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was a huge thing, so we just started part two of that.’

This is far from an official confirmation, the likes of which would only come from Kojima himself, but it does basically confirm what we’ve suspected for some time now. Death Stranding 2 is inbound. It’s not a surprise that there’s a sequel in development, given how stellarly the first game performed. Death Stranding, which also starred entertainment industry powerhouses like Léa Seydoux and Mads Mikkelson, was Kojima’s first release since he left Konami, a move that garnered much attention from the public. The game went on to become a global hit that deservingly received a director’s cut and subsequent PC port.

We don’t know when the Death Stranding sequel will hit the marketplace, but we know it’s likely still a ways away. If we go back to what Reedus said in his interview with Leo Magazine, he mentioned that it took him two to three years to finish all his work for the first one. That’s not counting all the hours that the rest of the Death Stranding team had to put into development, design, and testing before the game was released. We’re only three years from the initial release now, so it’ll likely still be a while, depending on when development was started. But at least we know we’re getting a sequel.

I hail from the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Born and raised in Pretoria, I've always had a deep interest in local history, particularly conflicts, architecture, and our country's rich past of being a plaything for European aristocracy. 'Tis an attempt at humor. My interest in history has since translated into hours at a time researching everything from the many reasons the Titanic sank (really, it's a wonder she ever left Belfast) to why Minecraft is such a feat of human technological accomplishment. I am an avid video gamer (Sims 4 definitely counts as video gaming, I checked) and particularly enjoy playing the part of a relatively benign overlord in Minecraft. I enjoy the diverse experiences gaming offers the player. Within the space of a few hours, a player can go from having a career as an interior decorator in Sims, to training as an archer under Niruin in Skyrim. I believe video games have so much more to teach humanity about community, kindness, and loyalty, and I enjoy the opportunity to bring concepts of the like into literary pieces.
